We believe that GEM produces the finest Neighborhood Electric Vehicles on the market for the following reasons:

  1. The GEM is made in America by a reputable company that has been in business for ten years. GEM has produced over 40,000 vehicles.
  2. The GEM is a purpose-built Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) and is not a modified golf car like most competitors. It features an aluminum space frame for corrosion resistance and automotive-style suspension and disc brakes. It is the only NEV available with doors for weather protection.
  3. The GEM recharges overnight on standard 110 volt power. It has an onboard charger and does not require a special circuit. It costs about 2 cents per mile to operate.
  4. The GEM has a range of 35 - 45 miles and can be legally operated on streets with a speed limit of 35 mph or less.
  5. GEM vehicles are equipped with all federally mandated safety equipment for Neighborhood Electric Vehicles including seat belts, headlights, turn signals and a safety-glass windshield with wipers.
  6. GEM cars are an excellent way of enhancing your LEED efforts by earning credits toward certification and enhances your green and sustainability initatives. 
  7. GEM passenger cars are available in six distinct models offering 2, 4 or 6 passenger seating options. GEM utility models offer payload capacities up to 1,450 lbs. GEM cars could serve numerous and diverse functions within your organization.
  8. Low cost leasing of GEM cars is available through our affiliated leasing company.
  9. Trained technicians are available to perform warranty work and maintenance service at our East Main Street location in Salem. We offer pickup and delivery for GEM maintenance and repair. We offer the full line of GEM parts and accessories.

GEM Cars feature the following standard equipment:
Safety
  • Automotive-style, three point safety belts.
  • 12-inch street-rated tires are standard on the GEM eS and the GEM eL and 13-inch street-rated tires are standard on the GEM eL XD.
  • Quartz-halogen headlamps with a 20-second safety delay after vehicle is turned off, front and rear turn signals, high-mount rear brake and taillights.
  • Laminated, tinted automotive safety glass with windshield wiper.
  • Structural composite and thermoplastic body panels.
  • Dual upper hand grips (optional) and lower seat rails.
  • Rear and side reflectors.
  • Rearview and dual exterior mirrors.

Design
  • The GEM eS, GEM eL and the GEM eL XD seat two occupants with bench-style seating using molded-foam cushions covered by marine grade UV-stable vinyl coverings.
  • Four-wheel automotive-style hydraulic brakes and parking brake.
  • Dual A-arm front independent suspension with coil over shock.
  • Automotive rack-and-pinion steering.
  • Welded aluminum space-frame using custom aluminum-alloy extrusions.


Technology
  • The GEM eS and the GEM eL feature a heavy-duty DC motor with continuous 5 horsepower rating and 12 horsepower peak during acceleration and hill climbing. The GEM eL XD features a heavy-duty DC motor with continuous 7 horsepower rating and 15 horsepower peak during acceleration and hill climbing.
  • Front-wheel drive with speed reducer and integral differential.
  • Solid-state custom motor controller with under and over voltage detector, regenerative braking, motor thermal protection and top speed regulation.
  • Six 12-volt flooded electrolyte batteries are standard on the GEM eS and the GEM eL. Nine 8-volt maintenance-free gel batteries are standard on the GEM eL XD.
  • On-board 72-volt DC charger that plugs into a standard 110-volt AC 15-amp outlet.

Eco-Friendly

With fluctuating gas prices and environmental concerns becoming more prevalent each day, GEM cars are the perfect solution for your short-distance transportation needs. GEM cars are 100% electric and emit zero tailpipe emissions.

Street-Legal

Classified as low-speed vehicles by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), GEM cars are street-legal in nearly all 50 states on most public roads posted at 35 mph or less. With a top speed of 25 mph GEM passenger and utility vehicles are ideal for driving on campuses, work sites, compexes or just around the neighborhood.

Well-Built

Each of the six GEM models meets the federal safety standards for low-speed vehicles. All GEM cars are equipped with standard automotive safety windshield glass, three-point safety belts, turn signals, halogen headlamps, brake lights, horn, adjustable mirrors, and windshield wipers. GEM cars are also performance-tested on the same facilities and with the same resources as major automobile manufacturers so you can be assured that safety and reliability are top priorities.

Versatile

GEM cars can be used for many applications - both work-related and recreational - including running errands, commuting to work or school, visiting family and friends, hauling equipment, transporting people, grounds maintenance, patrolling parking lots, or for business services.

Economical

For about $1.00, you can drive 50 miles in a GEM car, or the equivalent of 150 miles per gallon. That's about two cents per mile. GEM cars also require low maintenance, especially when compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. Just plug your GEM car into a 110-volt outlet to recharge. Combine low "fuel" costs, low maintenance costs, and an affordable purchase price, and the GEM car is the best in its class for short-distance, task-oriented driving.

Chrysler Group Global Electric Motorcars LLC has been in operation for over twelve years. Located in Fargo, North Dakota, Global Electric Motorcars manufactured its first vehicle in April 1998, a 48-volt GEM car that accommodated two passengers and had a top speed of 20 mph.
